"One can sing, but without the blessing of a great
soul it is empty."

Heavenly sounds emerged as Amma was giving darshan in
the Nerul Ashram in Bombay during the North India tour. In
a mixture of ancient devotional mantras and modern and traditional
Indian song, Parvati Khan sang the glory of the Divine Mother.
She sat quietly, almost unnoticed behind Amma's chair, this
grand lady of Indian music who is used to singing for great
crowds and even President Clinton, Michael Jackson and the
Indian Prime Minister. Parvati Khan accompanied her singing
with the sounds of an ancient monotone sruti-box. Chanting
on Devi, her voice preciously circumambulation the Divine
Form, it was almost an intimate prayer. |
Many in the audience were captivated and closed their eyes in
silence, often tears rolling from their eyes in hearing how heartfelt
Parvati sang her devotion, sharing the expression of the love we
all feel for Amma. After her precious
voice sang the eternal Om Namah Sivaya, Parvati Khan sat in silence,
holding us all in awe. Then, Amma turned round and beckoned her
to come for darshan. We talked to her sometime after that, as Parvati
was still holding Amma's prasad in her hand.

"I have no words. I feel just perfect. It is my first
time to meet Amma so directly. I saw Amma from a distance
two days ago during the public program in Bombay and I was
struck by the ambiance and by the energy from the bhajans.
It was all so beautifully done. It gives such a comforting
feeling. There is nothing you have to do, there is no why
or how, you just 'get to be' in Her presence. There is
so much positive energy around Her, She emits that energy,
so much love that is filling the inner soul of the person.
Amma embraces everyone, She does not distance, that is the
biggest magic of Her being" |
"I had a great career in Indian pop-music, but the last
years I have totally devoted myself to sing only for the glory
of the Supreme Cosmic Power. It is an honour and a blessing to
sing for that soulful aspect. A Sat guru is the manifestation of
the Supreme Power. Amma represents that for me. She is that very
thing. Amma carries a great message for World peace, I am magnetised
by that. I want to sing for the Unity of Mankind, for Vishwa Shanti,
my own mission for peace. One can sing, but without the blessing
of a great soul it is empty. "
"Currently I am doing a special sadhana. I am doing tapas
at all the great Jyotir temples of India (India holds 12 sacred
jyoti (light) lingams in temples all over the country, these are
regarded as the most holy Siva temples of India). I have
done eight so far in Madurai, Rameshwaram etc. I sing the glory
of the Gayatri Mantra."
"I feel Amma's support to go on singing for peace and harmony.
I sing in the name of Jesus, Allah and Bhagwan. I would love to
go to Pakistan to sing Raghupati Rhagava there. That's how I want
my singing to contribute. My pop-career was wonderful but now my
public appearance has changed. I live in the silence of my quest,
I feel an instrument to sing for peace and I feel Amma's blessing
on that. To sing is blessing, it is not a song, it is a bhajan,
it is a krya."
