Mangal, Rahu & Sani puja
|
When the 108 names of Sani are chanted, abhishekha is done
into the mud pot. Each time a mantra is chanted the bilva
leaf is dipped in the mud lamp containing the red liquid.
Then the liquid is poured into the mud pot using the bilva
leaf.

The camphor is lit and waved as Arati, a highly symbolic
process. Camphor, when it burns, burns completely, without
leaving any trace behind. While doing the Arati our prayer
is - like the this camphor, may my ego be completely eliminated.
Only in that egoless state will we be able to feel and experience
the omnipresence of the Divine.

At the close of the Mangal Puja, Finally the lemon oil lamp
is offered into the flames of the homa kunda, the sacrificial
fire pit, indicating the total burning up of our problems.
For the Rahu Puja, the turmeric snake is finally thrown by
the participants on to the image of Rahu etched on the image
in the temple.

The Sani Puja concludes with the participants carrying the
mud pots are then taken to the temple, where the brahmacharis
use the water inside the pots to perform abhishekha to the
idol in the sanctum sanctorum.
