Amrita University School of Media Studies

Formed in 2004, Amrita University's School of Media Studies is aimed at moulding a new class of journalists and media professionals who put equal emphasis on academics, practical experience, sophistication and objectivity, with a keen sense of social responsibility and a profound awareness of the challenges in an Indian perspective.

The school aims at developing media professionals by equipping them with a unique perspective of journalism in the Indian context, through a holistic approach.

Throughout modern history, people have depended on the mass media to spread the word about events and people of interest to the public. Journalism introduces students to the exciting world of the print media. Law, ethics and the history of journalism will complement the major units of study: reporting, writing, editing, photography, management, teamwork, advertising and design.

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, one of the premier deemed universities in the country, felt the need for an excellent institute for journalism with ideologies and objectives that are essentially Indian. Values of journalism based on Indian culture and nationalism have not been very prevalent in the Indian media. Amrita University is promoting journalism that is essentially Indian, but with the finesse and clarity that exists in international media schools.

The facilities of Amrita School of Media Studies are comparable to some of the finest institutions in the world in this genre.
