The elderly come to Amma's homes for refuge or to simply spend their final years in a tranquil spiritual environment. The care homes have a family atmosphere, and residents regularly participate in activities around the home. All the homes have a hall for prayer and community functions, including cultural programs, in which neighbours and friends often participate. Currently, the Ashram has care homes in Sivakashi, Tamil Nadu; Kottayam, Kerala; and in Bangalore and Karwar, Karnataka.
In fact, this service of the Ashram's is simply an extension of something Amma has been doing since her childhood. As in Amma's youth, she regularly would bathe neglected elderly people she came across during walks through her village and provide them with food and clothing. |
