In a heartfelt ceremony at Amritapuri, Amma united Sasha from Ukraine and Savitri from Russia in marriage, demonstrating how love and unity can prevail even amidst the turmoil of war.
Sasha, from Kyiv, Ukraine, is pursuing a PhD at Amrita University, focusing on creating interventions for mental health in war-affected areas. Savitri, from Moscow, Russia, is a psychology student and an ashram volunteer. Their love story began in 2019 in Amritapuri, with a deep connection that overcame geographical and political barriers.
Despite the challenges of COVID-19 and the war between their countries, the couple’s bond only grew stronger. “The war made our relationship even closer. Love is higher than national identities,” shared Savitri.
Amma conducted their wedding on January 23, Thursday and called upon everyone present to pray, not just for Sasha and Savitri, but also for peace between Russia and Ukraine. Savitri, visibly moved, said, “It was unbelievable and touching. I felt like crying.” Sasha added, “Amma’s words were so kind and loving, carrying great responsibility and symbolism.”
The couple’s union is a powerful symbol of love, transcending all borders and inspiring humanity to overcome division.
